I sometimes check out Product Hunt or ShowHN, and every now and then, I can't help but feel a bit envious when I come across the simplest yet coolest projects that people create and share. What interesting is that I've previously contemplated similar ideas or faced the very challenges that some of these projects tries to resolve. And that's when I pause and wonder why I didn't start something myself.
I've thought about this, and I've realized one key thing that might help me motivate myself to get started on the next idea I have. It stems from a common theme I've noticed in all these simple projects that people share - they have really great domain names. These names are easy to remember, short, and perfectly match the project they've built. Even if their project is a command-line tool or a browser extension, they usually have a neat landing page to go with it.
So, moving forward, when I get an idea and I've mulled it over for a few days, deeming it worth pursuing, the first thing I'm going to do is grab a good domain name for it. This way, I'll have some skin in the game, and it'll hopefully give me the motivation to launch something, even if it's not perfect, just to feel like I'm putting that domain to good use.
